TPI Hospitality, a Willmar, MN based hotel and restaurant company, is developing a Hampton Inn hotel in downtown Spicer, MN on the property currently occupied by the Bell Tower Plaza and the land adjacent to it. The development, which has been in process for about a year now, would not have become a reality without the efforts and support of the City of Spicer and its Economic Development Authority.

Convincing Hilton Hotels, the parent company of the Hampton Inn franchise, to support and approve the franchise in a market this size was essential to the project.  TPI’s relationship with Hilton was a key component in gaining their support, as Spicer will be TPI’s 14th Hilton branded development.

The City of Spicer has worked hard towards achieving a public use boat docking facility for hotel guests to utilize.  The boat dockage will be incorporated into a rebuilt DNR boat launch at its existing location in Spicer.  The hotel has also incorporated vehicle/trailer parking into its site plan in addition to traditional automobile parking.

Three local area families, who represent a combined 13 generations growing up and living in the Spicer-New London-Green Lake area, have joined TPI Hospitality to develop this financially challenging project.  The Forstrom’s, Dammermann’s and Torgerson’s have all made financial commitments which will allow for the development of this hotel.

Cities Edge Architects of Willmar have designed urban, suburban, resort, and rural hotels around the USA and Canada and are designing the Spicer project.  The Spicer hotel will comply with DNR height and setback requirements and will have an on-site storm water filtering and treatment to ensure that it does not have any negative environmental impact on Green Lake and the Community.  While small in size, the 3-story hotel with 52 guest rooms, will feature all of the modern
amenities and design of a new Hampton Inn in “downtown City Center USA”.  Construction is being planned to begin spring of 2016 with an opening one year later.

TPI Hospitality started in Willmar and considers that its headquarters to this day.   The Holiday Inn in Willmar, MN was TPI’s first hotel, opening in 1972 in partnership with the Forstrom and Torgerson families.    The company currently has over 40 open and operating businesses, with an additional 12 hotel projects in various stages of development and construction in both Minneapolis and SW Florida.  On January 1, 2015 TPI became the largest 100% Employee Owned Hospitality Company in the country.
